Frequently Asked Questions

Several types of flea and tick medications are available for dogs, each with its own advantages and application methods:
Topical Treatments (Spot-Ons): These are popular liquid medications applied to the back of your dog's neck. They typically kill fleas and ticks within 24 hours and provide ongoing protection for several weeks.

Oral Chewable Tablets: These chewable tablets are ingested by your dog and work systemically to kill fleas and ticks within hours. They often provide protection for a longer duration than topical treatments.

Collars: Flea and tick collars release low doses of insecticide continuously, repelling and killing fleas and ticks. However, their effectiveness can vary, and some dogs may experience skin irritation from the collar.

Flea and tick medications work in various ways depending on the active ingredients:

  • Flea and Tick Killers: These medications contain insecticides that kill adult fleas and ticks on contact or after ingestion.
  • Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs): These disrupt the growth cycle of fleas, preventing eggs from hatching and larvae from developing into adults.
  • Repellents: Some medications repel fleas and ticks, preventing them from attaching to your dog.

While generally safe, some flea and tick medications can cause mild side effects like skin irritation at the application site or mild gastrointestinal upset. Always follow the medication and your vet’s instructions, and consult your veterinarian if you notice any concerning side effects.

It depends on the medication. If you see an ‘RX’ label at the top right corner of the product picture, it means the medication requires an original prescription from your vet.

Ideally, we suggest to have regular flea and tick treatments for prevention. However, you can notice by the following signs if your dog have fleas and ticks:

  • Scratching and biting: Excessive scratching, biting, or chewing, especially around the tail base, ears, and paws.
  • Visible fleas or ticks: You might see fleas (small, reddish-brown insects) or ticks (small, spider-like parasites) on your dog's fur or skin.
  • Flea dirt: Tiny black specks (flea feces) on your dog's fur or bedding.
  • Red, inflamed skin: Skin irritation caused by flea bites or tick attachment. If you suspect fleas or ticks, consult your veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
