Purr-fect Summer Fun: Indoor Activities with Your Cat
by PetsDrugMart

As much as we enjoy the long, warm summer days outside, not all cats are outdoor roamers. This blog will walk you through plenty of ways to ensure your cat stays happy, active and engaged in the comfort of your home.

1. Create a Playground:

Cats love adventure! Transform a corner of your living space into a cat paradise with climbing structures, scratching posts, tunnels, and interactive toys that they can engage with whether you are home or not! Cats love to climb and explore, so the Les Petits Lapin d'Amour 3-Way Tunnel Toy and the KONG Play Spaces Zen Den are perfect options for them to run, scratch, hide and relax.

2. Treasure Hunt For Treats:

Engage your cat's natural hunting instincts by hiding treats or small toys around the house to keep them active and mentally stimulated. If you want something to keep them busy for a while The Challenge Treat Puzzle Toy, the Pioneer Pet SmartCat Peek-a-Prize Toy Box, and the Catit Play Treat Puzzle Feeder Cat Toy are great options for stimulating your cat to work for their food.

Some treat options from Pets Drug Mart that can help enhance playtime are the Catit Catnip Bubbles, the Catit Nibbly Crispy Treats, and the Icelandic+ Soft Chew Nibblets.

3. Interactive Playtime:

Interactive play sessions between you and your cat can be both fun and provide essential exercise. Playing with and training your cat helps reinforce a healthy bond between you, gives them necessary stimulation and joy, and is a great opportunity to teach them tricks!  You can use the treats above as positive reinforcement rewards! Just be warned: if you are incorporating catnip into your training session, all cats respond differently, and you may wind up with a cuddle or nap time instead.

The Cat Lures Laser Mouse is a great option for interactive play that brings your cat into a hunting mindset, as well as the fabcat Cat Nip Teaser Wand which will provide hours of entertainment. Both of these engaging toys can be used to encourage your cat to jump and explore different areas of your home, increasing confidence and supporting joint health as they age.

4. Cat Spa Day:

After a particularly hot day, treat your cat to a relaxing grooming session. Some excellent grooming products include Fresh N Clean Soothing & Sensitive Waterless Wash, the Dechra MalAcetic Spray Conditioner, and the Attitude Pet Grooming Wipes. Brushing also helps keep their coat in top condition, and is the part of grooming cats like most; you can use the Dematter B&B 9 Blades to remove rugged mats and the FURminator Undercoat deShedding Tool. Finally, once they’re relaxed, it may be a good time to trim your cat’s nails. For some cats, this is not a relaxing part of grooming, so it may be wise to give them some catnip or treats, and a lot of loving patience, in the process. For cats that move a lot during trimming, these FURminator Nail Clippers are professional-quality with an adjustable-depth nail guide, helping you and your cat be confident you are getting a safe trim each time.

5. Nap Time Rituals:

Lastly, don't forget how much your cat loves napping, especially after a long day filled with activities. Create comfortable spots around the house where they can curl up and relax. Consider the BeOneBreed Cozy Basket or the BeOneBreed Cloud Pillow for the perfect unwinding cat spot. Remember that cats love to feel sheltered and to be close to you, so try placing their new nap spot under a chair or table in a room where you spend a lot of time, such as your office or living room.

Conclusion:

These indoor activities ensure that your cat stays active, happy, and mentally engaged during the summer months. Incorporating a range of nutritious treats, engaging toys, and grooming essentials will give you a summer filled with precious moments with your furry friend!
